There is now legislation in the UK which aims to end unfair discrimination against
disabled people – for example, in employment, education and access to facilities and services. There is also a Disability Rights Commission (DRC) which promotes civil rights for disabled people. The DRC can be contacted on 08457 622 633.

In the UK, disabled people are entitled to receive a ‘community care assessment’ from social services. If you are a disabled asylum seeker, you are also entitled to request this assessment and it is essential you do so as soon as possible
